Oh the biggest lie you never knew you told...until you had kids!
My husband and I are enjoying a date night on a Thursday night! We are newly married so we can do mid-week dates...stay up late too and not regret it the next morning! We are enjoying a milkshake at Chick-Fil-A. Looking to my right, I see this sweet family of four sitting in the booth. The oldest (about 3) has finished her meal and is begging mom and dad to play on the jungle gym, while mom is holding a baby boy and neither her nor dad had finished but a bite of their food. I look at Zach with a smile. We had enjoyed talks of having a baby since we got married, and seeing this sweet family made it look like a dream...
Dad tells his daughter to finish her fruit before going to play on the jungle gym but she demands to play instead. As she makes a run for the slide, Dad jumps up and politely asks her to sit down. Daughter then throws herself to the ground and lets out the LOUDEST scream I had heard!
Zach and I look at each other with a frown. "Our kids will NEVER do that. They will be behaved and do as we ask." Hahaha.ha!
That was the moment God planned my little red-headed fireball.
Now, 4 years later my husband and I are enjoying a a shared cup of coffee at Starbucks on a Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm(after nap time). Our dream has become a reality...just not as graceful as I had imagined!
My two and a half year-old has his head stuck in between a table and is yelling loudly for "HELP" while my 5 month old is puking her lunch onto my shirt. After cleaning up and getting my sons head unstuck he then proceeds to drag himself across the floor on his belly and even though she just got up from a nap, my daughter is now tired and fussing again. Yes I told him to get up, I even took him to the bathroom to discipline him. He's two. And while he does obey a lot of the time, there are days that you have to just be okay with being a little embarrassed in public!
So YES your kids will do THAT! And NO that doesn't mean you're a bad parent or that your kids are bad. It's just part of life so just smile and do the best you can!
