Hi there! To say this week has been busy would be an understatement!
It was wedding week! My sister was married this passed weekend and I was her matron of honor (that makes me sound old!) I will post on the wedding later. Right now I want to update you on what is going on in our 2 and 3's class! We have had a couple of very fun weeks! This week's focus was on families, primarily on dad's since it was fathers day last Sunday.

This week's focus was on families, primarily on dad's since it was fathers day last Sunday.
So our bible focus this week was our heavenly Fathers love. We centered on John 3:16. During circle time I prompted questions about how our families love us. How we love our moms and dads and that they don't have to do anything to make us love them, we just do! We discussed that just as our moms and dad (and brothers, sister,s grandparents, etc.) love us so does our Heavenly Father. God! We name heart necklaces that said "God loves me!" The kids decorated with sequins and foam shapes. I tied yarn on them to make it a necklace.
During our circle time we went into a deeper discussion about families. We talked about who is in our family and where family lives. We also discussed how families are all different. We created a family bulletin board where I had the students glue on magazine cut outs of pictures of families. My kiddos had a fun time talking about what activities the families were doing in the pictures and telling me about the types of things they do with their families. This was a good way to show how families are different.
Since Fathers day was quickly approaching we did a couple of crafts made special for all the daddies! One easy one we did was matching neckties. The students loved wearing their nckties that made them look just like daddy.

The next craft (my favorite one to date) was our "DAD" painting!
For this craft you need canvas or thick card stock, painters tape, and toxic free washable (thats important!) acrylic paint. You will also want a smock or large t-shirt, this one gets MESSY! All I did was tape down the word "DAD" on the canvas. I placed dabs of paint in styrofoam bowls and let the kids go to town!

This project was a SUCCESS! Before we started, two or three of my kids were crying (we had just finished snack) and as soon as I placed the paint down, there was not ONE tear in my classroom!
Like I said, you need a smock of some sort, it was MESSY! After all, you cant have any fun if you cant get a little messy...or a LOT! A smock didn't keep my little from getting it on his clothes...oops ;)
I absolutely LOVE how these turned out! I was so excited for my husband to see what Isaac made for him!
This week about families was so much fun, I cant wait to tell about this week. We learned about the Ocean! Stay tuned for another fun filled week here at Son Shine School!
